Salad Forks
Is it socially acceptable to use your dinner fork for the salad course?
If your dining companion has used said fork to scratch an itch on their ankle?
Decorum and common decency would cause you to ask yourself, at what point during the meal was said itch scratched (prior to the salad course, during the salad course) and your response would inform you of the best course of action.
However, if said itch was scratched during the dinner course, all bets are off. At that point, your companion has committed an unforgivable faux-pas and you would be obligated to politely remove both yourself and her from the table.
If however this is not the case, you must also ask your self questions regarding your dining companions personal hygiene and potential threat of infection.
Salad Forks
Saving Calories On Condiments & Salads
A very little thing that you can do for very large results is cut back on what condiments you get when you eat food. Case in point; Mayo! It is nothing but junk for you. It has unhealthy amounts of saturated fat in it. When you are getting a burger or a sandwich always ask for no mayo. It is easily adding calories and unhealthy amounts of fat to your diet. Mustard is ok but be wary of its sodium content. Most ketchup has high fructose corn syrup in it so be very careful of eating too much of it.
When you are getting salad ask for the salad dressing to be put on the side. This will save you many, many calories over the course of the meal and your week. Ranch is a delightful dressing but nutritionally it is not good for you. Avoid drenching your salad with a boat load of ranch. Your body will thank you later! Stop using Ranch you say?? Are you Crazy?? No, but I want you to cut down on it. I also like ranch on my salad or with my appetizers. What you want to do is to dip your fork into the dressing first, then take a bit of your food. In doing so you will still get that great ranch taste but without all the calories. That is why you ordered your salad dressing on the side.
Be careful of the salad that you do get. Many times the salads at restaurants will be no better for you than getting a hamburger. This is because they add a lot of extra stuff to the salad that is not beneficial to you. Case in point-crispy chicken. Crispy chicken is chicken that has been deep fried in oil. This will add a lot of saturated fat. When you are getting any kinds of meat on your salad make sure that it is grilled. Another thing to avoid with salads are taco salad bowls. The bowl that is used to make a taco salad has been dry fried also. Your best bet is to ask for the taco salad with no bowl. You will save many calories by doing it this way. Try to use salsa as salad dressing for your taco salads as it only has 15 calories per serving in it and will go with taco salads quite well.
If you follow these simple little tricks you will be able to save yourself calories through out the day. It may not be any significant amount of calories but believe me all the little things you do to save some calories will add up in the long run.
